Successful dissertation: Heat and mass transfer from jet impingement flow for drying maschines

On November 9, 2020, Mr. Ali Chitsazan successfully defended his dissertation on the topic "Heat and Mass Transfer from Jet Impingement Flow for Drying Machines" at the Institute for Multiphase Processes at Leibniz University of Hannover (Prof. Glasmacher). The dissertation was written during his work at the Institute for Energy Research (IFE) at the Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, within the Laboratory of Turbomachinery and fluid dynamics (Prof. Klepp). During his time at Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Mr. Chitsazan was involved in research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy. He was a member of the university's Garduiertenzentrum, which supported his work with a graduate scholarship.

The thesis describes the flow and transport processes in impact jet flows. Despite the simple arrangement, the high velocity gradients and the deflection result in interesting and complex fluidic phenomena. The transition coefficients, which are of technical interest, are not easy to predict: For complex and moving geometries, nozzle fields as well as numerous parameter ranges, as they occur in technical applications, only little data is available. Mr. Chitsazan has succeeded in generating values of the transport coefficients at the surface for the widest possible range of parameters and in demonstrating important physical relationships by the chosen approach based on numerical simulation calculations and by his systematic approach.

The members of the Institute of Energy Research congratulate Dr. Chitsazan most warmly for his success!
